How to Sell Boom Cards on Teachers Pay Teachers

So, you’ve started making Boom Cards on Boom Learning and you’re enjoying it! Then you hear that other people sell Boom Cards on TPT and it’s a great way to make even more sales. Why not have two streams of income?

However, the idea of selling your decks on TPT is daunting. You have no idea how to go about it the right way.

Don’t worry, this blog post is going to outline the steps you need to take in order to sell your Boom Cards on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Why sell on TPT?

Let’s first clarify why you need to be selling on Boom Learning AND Teachers Pay Teachers.

Here are a few reasons:

• As great as Boom is, it’s still newer and less popular than TPT. TPT is a huge and trusted marketplace. That’s where your audience is. You want to catch teachers on TPT and lure them to Boom!
• Like I already said, selling on Boom and TPT means two sources of income.
• Decks can sell better on TPT than Boom. This varies from seller to seller, but it’s often the case. There are lots of reasons this happens, but all you need to know is that it does (I’d say thumbnails and video previews on TPT definitely help!).

If you’ve got a TPT store and you’re good to go, then let’s talk about the upload process when it comes to Boom Cards.

How to sell Boom Cards on TPT – Credits Page

In order to sell Boom Cards on TPT, you need to create a PDF for your listing (a document that a teacher can purchase that will link them to the Boom Cards).

I create using PowerPoint and I encourage you to do the same. You need to create a credits page (which you can also use on other TPT listings that aren’t Boom Cards).

A credits page will:

• Thank the buyer for purchasing
• Remind them to follow you on TPT
• Remind them to leave a review on TPT and get credits
• Provide links to follow you on social media
• Give credit to any fonts or clip art used
• Show your terms of use

How to sell Boom Cards on TPT – Boom Links

The next page you create will have the link so that the buyer can redeem the Boom Cards. This should NOT be a written link on its own (that the buyer can easily copy and paste and share with others). You should instead take a screenshot of your deck. Insert this picture onto your document and right click in order to add a hyperlink.

So where do you get the link?

While you are creating your Boom deck on Boom Learning, click the ‘details’ button. Go to the ‘TPT/OTHER’ tab and tick the box to list on TPT. Click on the red ‘Secret TPT url’ and it will be highlighted. Click CTRL+C to copy it. Go to your PDF and paste the link as a hyperlink on your screenshot.

Underneath the linked Boom picture, you can use leftover space to upsell other Boom decks. You can also provide any info you think a buyer might need. You could explain what Boom Cards are and how they work or link to the FAQ section on Boom Learning.

What next?

Save your PowerPoint as a PDF and then you can upload it to TPT. If you’re feeling nervous about creating a TPT listing, the informative blog posts I linked above will guide you.

While creating your TPT listing, you need to include info for the buyer in your description. I remind buyers that this is not a printable resource. I answer the question, ‘What is a Boom Card?’ Then I use the information supplied by Boom answering ‘what happens when you download’. Boom Card Previews

Boom Learning gives us a preview link that shows the buyer the first 4 cards of the deck.

Click the ‘details’ button on your Boom Cards. Go to the ‘TPT/OTHER’ tab and tick the box to list on TPT. Click on the green ‘Preview url’ and it will be highlighted. Click CTRL+C to copy it. You can use your TPT description to say, ‘Try this deck by checking out the preview – CLICK HERE!’ You can paste the link you took from Boom and insert it as a hyperlink on the word ‘HERE’.

Alternatively, you can create another PDF to share this preview link. You could do the exact same process as before. This can be uploaded in the preview section of your TPT listing. Personally, I use the PDF preview to answer FAQ instead and put my Boom preview link in my description.

Video Preview

Use a free website like ‘screencast-o-matic’ to record yourself playing the deck. Or film yourself playing the deck on an iPad. Either way, video previews can be handy at showing your deck in action (this way, buyers get to see more than 4 slides). If you have the premium TPT membership, you can upload video previews when creating your listing.

COVER AND Thumbnails

Use iPad clip art or mock-ups to create your cover and thumbnails. You can grab some affordable tablet clip art here and some mock-ups here. Create square PowerPoint slides and insert the mock-up pictures. Take screenshots of your Boom Cards and insert them on top of the iPads. Save your PowerPoint slides as JPEGs. Next, upload the pictures as covers and thumbnails on your TPT listing.

Finally, list your product as ‘Internet Activities’ as the product type for TPT and you’re good to go!

Pro Tip: ALWAYS double check that your Boom link is working. So, once you’ve uploaded your Boom Cards to TPT, download the PDF and check everything is in order.
