Hey!
If you teach Kindergarten or First Grade, I bet you’re looking for FREE activities to help teach phonics, right?
Of course! Who doesn’t love a good freebie?
Well today I want to show you this fun and no prep free resource for teaching S blends to your little learners.
What is it?
The activities are ‘Color by Code’ worksheets. Students simply look at the pictures and decide what the initial sound is (what S blend they can hear when they say the word). Then, they color in the pictures using the key.
There are three types of worksheets. One of the worksheets features ‘sk, st, and sm’ sounds. The next worksheet features ‘sc, sw, sn, sp’. The third one features all the s blends together.
What’s great about this is that you have a choice. You can give a worksheet with either 3, 4, or 7 sounds. This is great for differentiation as some learners might be overwhelmed by all the different S blends.
You can grab the free S blend worksheets HERE! It’s a part of my free resource library, so I’m sure you’ll grab some other free goodies too!

This read and color activity is an engaging way for students to read and identify S blends. They have to read the words and color them based on a key. It’s a great next step after students have completed the free color by S blends picture worksheet from earlier in this post!

This review worksheet is a great way for students to practise their reading, spelling, and writing skills.
Students must read a short paragraph that includes S blend words. The students then read and highlight S blend sounds. Next, they hunt for S blend words in a mini wordsearch. After, they look at pictures and decide on the initial sound. Students even fill in missing letters for S blend words. Finally, they trace and write words with S blends.
This worksheet has lots of variety and is sure to keep students engaged!

Students can also practice their handwriting whilst learning S blends with this worksheet.
