Hey there hard-working teacher, are you looking for free writing worksheets and crafts? Of course you are! Luckily, I’ve got you covered.
In this post, I want to show you an engaging set of activities that your students will adore (that is NO PREP and free for you)! If you’re teaching how-to writing (procedure writing), then these ‘How to Make Pancakes’ activities are exactly what you need.
Click here to grab them straight away!
Sequencing
First, this resource comes with some colored pictures featuring the steps for making pancakes. You can print, (laminate), and cut them out or show the pictures digitally. This will facilitate a discussion of the steps required when making pancakes.

Planning Time
This resource also includes a planning page with 5 boxes, so that your students can write down (or draw pictures) of their ideas. This is a great opportunity for students to draft their writing (and you can point out any sequencing issues).
Worksheets
Next up, this resource features a worksheet (in two versions, dotted and plain lines). This worksheet allows your students to formulate their ideas into proper sentences that match the pictures. The dotted line version has 3 steps and the plain lines version has 4 steps. You can use this worksheet as a draft and fix up any student spelling or grammar errors.
Writing Craft
Next, this resource has a writing craft for students to complete as their final writing piece (in two versions, dotted and plain lines). There is a full-sized page for student writing. Students color in a pancake, cut it out, and glue it on top of their writing. This makes a cute bulletin board!
Flip Book
If your students aren’t capable of writing a full page, this flip book is a great alternative craft idea. You can print as many pages as you like (there are two versions, dotted and plain lines). For example, students can write 1, 2, 3, or 4 pages worth of writing and glue them on top of each other. Students color in a pancake, cut it out, and glue it as the cover to their pancake flip book.
