Perhaps you’ve heard the words ‘Boom Cards’ thrown around a lot lately in the teaching world. I bet you’re wondering what they are. Well fear not, I’m going to answer once and for all.

Here’s the main idea –
Boom cards are digital task cards that are played on the Boom Learning website.
Now let’s dive in to what that means and how exactly they work.
Digital task cards?
Boom cards started out as a digital version of a task card. You know the ones with addition sums or the occasional place value question that we use in Math centers? That kind of thing. So, they are essentially a digital version of a question. The premise is simple. Instead of students answering the question on paper, they select the answer on the digital task card and move on to the next one.

Teachers and students love Boom for the simple reason that it is self-checking and generates reports. Goodbye marking! It is also interactive and engaging. We all know that kids nowadays love technology and just can’t get enough of screens. But over the years, Boom has become more and more engaging for students. They can click, type, drag, and drop. Although some decks are quite basic looking, a lot of them have colorful clip art which has made them very eye catching!

What’s the Boom Learning website?
Although you can purchase Boom decks on Teachers Pay Teachers, they can only be played on the Boom Learning website. You can create accounts for you and your students quite easily. There are free and paid options. However, you don’t have to create student accounts and worry about logins or using the Boom platform with your students if you don’t want to.
Let’s talk about…Fast Pins!
Fast pins are a great way to share a boom deck with students by using a link. This means that you can assign Boom Cards through Google Classroom or other online learning platforms.

So in summary…
Boom cards are self-grading exercises on the Boom Learning website. Students are assessed on their knowledge in a fun and engaging way (Boom Cards are like a game). They are interactive and students click, drag, drop, or type in order to show the answer. Boom Cards can be fun and engaging Literacy/Math Centers which you can use with your classroom technology, such as iPads, computers, and interactive whiteboards. Best of all? There is NO printing, cutting, or laminating!
