Hi,
I wanted to dedicate a whole post to keywords because they can have a massive impact on your sales.
Keywords could be the difference between your product showing up on the first page of TPT search or the last. They could be the difference between your pin going viral on Pinterest or being a flop.
So, let’s learn about the importance of keywords and how you can use them to improve your sales on Teachers Pay Teachers.

What is a keyword?
Keywords are words or phrases that describe your content. A keyword is a significant word that a buyer will use when researching to find products.
Here’s a fun fact for you. There are different types of keywords.
Some keywords are obvious, like ‘Math’. These types of keywords are broad and there are 1.1 million results on TPT for ‘Math’. But it’s these obvious keywords that are the hardest to rank for. As there are millions of Math products and pins, there will be lots of competition.
For that reason, it’s also beneficial to use what’s called ‘long tail’ or ‘targeted’ keywords. These key terms are often something specific. They are searched for less often, but are sometimes more beneficial. ‘3D Shapes’ has 13,000 results on TPT. A lot less that 1.1 million for ‘Math’. An even more targeted keyword would be ‘Trapezium’ which has 416 results.
So which type of keywords should you use?
All of them. It’s good to have a mixture of popular and specific terms. Ultimately, any word that truly describes your product is valuable. Especially if it’s a word that a buyer is likely to search for.

Why are keywords important?
Keywords are important because they are the linchpin between what people are searching for and the product you are providing to fill that need.
If you have keyword rich titles and descriptions for your TPT products and Pinterest pins, you are making them more likely to be found. It’s like you’re waving a big sign that reads, ‘Come here! I have exactly what you’re looking for!’
Keywords are as much about the buyer as they are about your product. This is because you might describe what you offer in a slightly different way than some people ask for it. The best thing is to think of every word that describes your product and think about every word that a buyer would type into that search bar.
What would you type into the search bar if you were looking for addition activities in April? Each teacher might type something slightly different. Some will type ‘Addition activities’, whereas others will type ‘Easter addition worksheets for kindergarten’.
The keywords I would be throwing out there are, ‘Math, Addition, Worksheet, Activities, April, Easter, Kindergarten, Adding’. Those words would all feature in my title and/or description.
The takeaway is this: keywords are important. Take the time and be intentional in what you choose.
Good luck!
